A significant challenge at expo events was the lack of reliable Wi-Fi connectivity, preventing the application from accessing the Peterbilt website. This limitation required the application to function seamlessly in an offline environment while still delivering an engaging and informative experience for potential customers.
The application serves three primary user groups:
Initially, the client did not provide the dimensions of the digital kiosk device. To proceed, we researched common methods for creating interactive hotspots. One platform that stood out during our research was Genially.com, known for its simple and user-friendly interface.Assuming the display would have a horizontal orientation, we created wireframes optimized for presenting hotspots on horizontally oriented screens. However, once we received the actual device dimensions, we discovered it had a vertical orientation and was significantly larger than anticipated. This posed a new challenge: when users interacted with the device, a substantial portion of the screen fell outside their immediate view. To address this, we revised our plans and developed new wireframes specifically designed to accommodate the vertical orientation and ensure an optimal user experience.
Our goal was to deliver an experience for the kiosk application that closely mirrored the Peterbilt website, ensuring familiarity and ease of use. To simplify the process of finding trucks, we organized them into tabbed categories: On-Highway, Vocational, Medium Duty, and Electric.Once a sales representative selects a truck, a modal appears displaying the truck model with hotspots and some key information. The sales rep can then lock the screen through the settings menu, removing the navigation options and allowing potential customers to focus solely on the truck's features.Users can interact with intuitive hotspots to explore the truck's key features. The application’s design is straightforward and user-friendly, making it easy for both sales reps and customers to engage with the content effectively.
Before deploying the application, we conducted thorough testing on the kiosks to ensure it operated smoothly and performed as intended.
The Digital Truck Tours application was first used at the the World of Concrete Expo in January 2025 and it was a great success.
